Safety

Think and act in a safe manner. Always disconnect power and use a lockout before you work on the E-coat system, or any of the related subsystems. Observe any confined space conditions. Use the appropriate safety equipment and clothing for the task. Please carefully read all the instructions listed below to familiarize yourself with the project before attempting to perform any of the work.

General

Occasionally with new cathodic ED paint systems, the anolyte may appear reddish in color. If corrosion & fungus have been eliminated as causes, another possibility exists. At the start up of a new cathodic ED system, the anolyte may be a reddish color, but also clear, i.e., no suspended solids or fungus growth. This may be the result of the certain anions in the ED bath that are able to pass from the ED bath into the Cell with very fresh ED paint. This is a rare occurrence and does not happen very often. The replenishment ED paint materials generally do not have these anions in the same concentration. Eventually, the anions causing the color will all be exhausted from the ED bath and the anolyte should become clear. The transfer takes place only while current is flowing between the Cells and the ware. If the ED system has a slow startup to full production, then it may take time for the reddish color to disappear.
