Safety

Think and act in a safe manner. Always disconnect power and use a lockout before you work on the E-coat system, or any of the related subsystems. Observe any confined space conditions. Use the appropriate safety equipment and clothing for the task. Please carefully read all the instructions listed below to familiarize yourself with the project before attempting to perform any of the work.

Required Materials

  • Clean cotton gloves, other(s) as required

    Required Tools

  • Pressure washer

    General

Precious metal (PMx) Anodes, especially in TECTRON Bare Electrode applications can accumulate paint solids and other contaminants. These compounds can decrease the electrical efficiency of the Anode, which results in higher voltages, wasted energy and extra demand on the chiller.

For caustic immersion cleaning, do not exceed a 2% caustic solution and keep the temperature below 70 deg. C (158 deg. F).

Solvents (such as acetone) can also be used, but they can leave organic compounds on the surface of the Anode that result in higher required voltages. Rinse off the Anodes with a low-medium pressure DI water rinse (stay back approx. 2.5 m (7.5 ft.) after use of solvents. Please contact UFS with the name of the solvent, so it can be approved prior to use.

Do not use wire brushes to scrub. Use nothing firmer than a nylon bristle to gently clean the surface of the Anode.

Remove any rings and always use clean cotton gloves while handling and cleaning the Anodes.

Do not burn off the contaminants by placing the Anode in an oven. The surface temperature of the PMx Anode should never exceed 131 deg. C (267 deg. F)
